4th of July

We spent the 4th of July in Washington this year because we couldn't get out of town in the middle of the week due to work. We were disappointed that we were not going to be able to spend the 4th with family in Linville or Charleston, but we had a great time nonetheless. It is pretty special to be in the Nation's Capital on Independence Day, even though we just stayed in the neighborhood.

We spent the day at the pool thanks to Lanie and Richard letting us mooch their passes. The pool had music, food, games, contests and tons of people. Good times.

For dinner we met Rachael and Kent at Chef Geoff's - a restaurant that is right up the street from our house. The 34oz SuperMugs always make for a good time.

Afterwards we walked over to the old cemetery in Georgetown to watch the fireworks display taking place on the National Mall. We had a pretty good view of the action being up on a hill, but we were a little too far away in my opinion. Half way through the display, Molly leaned over and announced that we were watching our last 4th of July fireworks show without children. Looking around at all of the families gathered beside us with excitement radiating from their children, this was perfectly fine with me.
