Baby Iauco: The Birthday Party

Mary Grace had her first "real" birthday party earlier this month, and it was quite the event. There is nothing like a room full of two-year-old children hopped up on cake and ice cream. We decided to have the party at Mayberry's, which is a local ice cream parlor that Molly and I both frequented as children. They make a mean grilled cheese at Mayberry's, in case you ever decide to stop in for lunch. The cake was a Sesame Street cake from Dewey's, another Winston-Salem institution. It was a big hit with all of the kids.

The party was a lot of fun for Mary Grace. She knew that she was the guest of honor, and was on her best behavior for the most part. Things were a little shaky at first when she spotted a huge gumball machine and began demanding certain colors, but she calmed down and focused on the party as soon as the other children trickled into the restaurant. We were a little nervous about singing Happy Birthday since she had gotten scared a few weeks earlier, but she handled it very well. In fact, she was singing louder than anyone else in the room. Molly was very efficient with the time, and had everyone in and out of the party in under an hour. It was a very impressive feat.
